8th Grade Sewing and Design-Winter/Spring 2009

We will be working on several projects during the semester. Students will have the opportunity to use different stitches and techniques with the sewing machine. You will need to go to the fabric store only two or three times during the semester to purchase fabric. I will send home vouchers and information. The other projects will be kits that we order or we will be using fabric and supplies that I have purchased. We will also be incorporating more technology into the class this semester. Students that get behind will need to come into before or stay after school to catch-up. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

7th grade FACS-2008-2009

The 7th grade FACS class is a continuation of things learned in 6th grade. We will be preparing six new items and revisiting topics such as nutrition, food prep, table setting, measurements and manners. We will move into sewing halfway through the quarter. Students will be making a pillowcase using fabric they have selected. A voucher and additional information will be coming home with your student. We will also be talking about clothing care and everyone will need to do a load of wash for homework! Our final topic is family communications and we talk about families, handling anger and family violence. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

6th grade FACS 2008-2009

Welcome to 6th Grade FACS! My 6th graders start in the foods lab and move into sewing halfway through the quarter. In foods we will be discussing food prep, measurements, manners, table setting and nutrition. We will be preparing six or seven recipes in the foods lab. Warning! They will want to start cooking more at home! Encourage them to try these and other family recipes, but they should also clean up after themselves :). In sewing, students will make a tote bag using a computerized sewing machine. They will not have to buy anything for this project-the school provides the kits. We will ask for parent help once we move into sewing and you will receive a letter. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
